ANTIQUES

Antiques are generally defined as items that are approximately 100 years old or more. This timeline serves as a basic guide for determining whether an item can be classified as an antique. However, antiques are further broken down into many different periods, each with its own distinctive characteristics. For example, vintage items from the 1950s to the 1970s represent a specific era of design and craftsmanship. The 1980s is often considered postmodern, while items from the 1990s onward fall into the contemporary category.

The 1920s and 1930s, often referred to as the Depression era, mark a time when many objects began to fit the timeline for being considered antique. While these are just a few examples of how we categorize items, the world of antiques is rich and diverse, encompassing a wide array of objects from various periods in history.

Our expertise covers nearly every category of antique, with a special focus on furniture, lighting, stoneware, art, glass, pottery, Depression glass, as well as American and European objects of interest. The list of categories is virtually endless, and many more are available on our website across various pages, offering insight into the types of antiques we handle.

Since the early 2000s, the antique market has evolved significantly. While some items that once commanded high prices have seen their value decline, others have risen in value over time. In fact, certain items that were not considered highly valuable in the 1980s are now sought after by collectors and can command impressive prices. Conversely, there are antiques that were highly prized in the 1980s that may be more difficult to sell today, requiring a more strategic approach.
